Why work at Camp this Summer? What's in it for you?
Well, apart from the two most obvious reasons, it's fun! and you get to spend time at the lake! It's also a great way to develop many skills. Skills that you can take with you, put on your resume and learn and grow from! Apart from getting experience working with kids (many of our staff are either in education or going into education), you will also have so many opportunities to grow. Every day at camp is an opportunity to practice being part of a team, develop leadership skills, take initiative, work on effective communication skills and conflict resolution, be creative and to develop independence and good time management skills. These are the skills we are looking for in our summer staff and these are the skills that we want to help you develop to become an effective leader in the rest of your life as well!

The summer 2027 season runs from Sat. June 26 to Sun.. Aug. 22. Staff training at camp is Sat. June 26 to Tues.June 29 . There are three pre-camp training sessions in Saskatoon. One a month in April, May and June, staff are required to attend.
SUMMER PROGRAM DIRECTOR
is a full-time activity coordinator and planner and will be at least 21 by April 2025. This person will be very organized, able to implement the summer program plans as laid out by the Executive Director, and bring their own ideas.
Duties/skills:
-good communication skills (able to give detailed and clear instructions and delegate effectively)
-mature, forward-thinking and able to manage time
-Positively motivate staff to get involved and do their part.
-responsible for the FUN and the idea expert!
-planning, organizing and having all supplies ready for everything from games, theme days, special events, arts and crafts, activity times, spiritual care time, cabin time ideas and everything in between.
-leading the day, doing announcements
-taking photos throughout the week, preparing the weekly slide show for parent pick up time
-Willing to jump in where needed, will help with campers and cabin groups.
-Work collaboratively with the Executive Director and Summer Director.
Begins June 15 (working in collaboration with the Executive Director), Should be at least 21 years of age. July and August are full-time on-site with three pre-training and team-building sessions in Saskatoon in April, May and June. $3300/month
LIFEGAURD/ FIRST AIDER
will be at least 19 by April 2025 and will hold a valid NLS certificate as well as a first aid certificate with CPR level C and AED certifications.
Duties/Skills:
-Attend and supervise all swim times from the lifeguard chair and be present for waterfront activities.
-Will keep detailed incident reports and be well-versed in our emergency protocols.
-Will be responsible for intaking Medical Administration Record forms, documenting special needs or conditions and organizing all camper medications, distributing daily as needed to campers.
-Will work collaboratively with the Summer Program Director
This is an ideal position for students studying in any healthcare field who also hold their NLS or for lifeguards who are experienced in first aid. Should be at least 18 years of age July and August are full-time on-site at camp with three pre-training and team-building sessions in Saskatoon in April, May and June. $3200/month
LEADERS/SUMMER STAFF
are directly responsible for the 24-hour care of their cabin group, as well as for the general well-being of all campers.
Duties/Skills:
- mature, good role models
-patient and organized
-work cooperatively as a team with their peers.
-experience with a variety of ages of children and youth is an asset.
-will help implement the summer program as laid out by the Programs Coordinator and work as a team under the supervision of the Summer Director and Executive director.
-will rotate through the kitchen helper role and groundskeeping role to have extra downtime while still being an important part of the team at camp!
-will act in the best interest of our campers for their safety and wellbeing.
-will be good role models to all children at camp and conduct themselves as such at all times even while off-site
-will lead a variety of activities including games, sports, waterfront, arts and crafts, singing, skits, bible study, vespers, and campfires.
Should be at least 18 by April 2025. July and August is full-time on-site at camp with three pre-training and team-building sessions in Saskatoon in April, May and June. $3000/M
HEAD COOK
-makes meal plans, orders supplies, preps meals, cleans and organizes kitchen, and cooks all meals for the entire camp for the duration of each camp.
- have previous kitchen experience cooking for large groups, practice safe food handling and storage
-must be able to multi-task well, be organized
-have good communication skills A completed food safety course is also required.This position is from June 24 to Aug 22 $3500/M
ASSISTANT COOK
-helps with prep, portioning, serving, putting supplies away, keeping things organzied and clean up in the kitchen under the direction of the Head Cook.
-professional experience not necessary but some cooking and knife skills are an asset as is being organized with a good ability to follow direction and take initiative is. This position is from June 24 to Aug 22 $3000/M
MAINTAINANCE/GROUNDSKEEPER
Duties/skills:
-A vehicle and a valid class 5 driver’s license are recommended.
-general maintenance, basic carpentry, basic plumbing knowledge, able to learn and manage our water pump system, painting, minor repairs and clean up
-repair and run small tools and equipment
-maintain grounds, garbage and recycling,
-Able to work independently and follow written & verbal instructions.
-should have knowledge of handling and storage of dangerous materials. WHIMIS course is appreciated.
This position is for any one who is handy and organized. Must be at least 19years old.
**Would be ideal for a Candle Lake resident or Cabin owner. Accomodations could be on site at camp or could be a come and go position.
July and August is on site 6 hours day at $20/hour on camp-in-session days. (May30/31 is our camp clean-up weekend, and recommended to attend.)
if you would like to see what it would be like to work at camp and to gain experience working with kids, then this program is for you! Successful candidates will come to staff leadership training once in June in Saskatoon and training at camp Sun. June 28 at camp. you will then spend a week in a cabin with campers and a fulltime cabin leader mentor as a Cabin Leader in Training.
Any 15 to 17 year old interested in being or a C.I.T. (cabin leader in training) should fill in the C.I.T. application form and go through the interview process. This is an un-paid volunteer position, but looks great on a resume especially if you would like to be full time paid summer staff in the future at Tapawingo.
We are always looking for volunteers. Come and find your Tapa-self at camp and be involved in whatever way you can. Volunteer as a cabin leader, summer staff, grouds keeper, maintenance crew, kitchen helper, staff mental health support, activity assistant.
