Why United Church Camping... Objectives of Christian Camping Tapawingo was founded by a small group of United Church ministers and their young families back in 1948 to provide an experience of fellowship in nature. We are proud to be a United Church camp. The United Church of Canada is a progressive and liberal Christian institution that advocates for social justice issues, and environmental advocacy and promotes a more compassionate and inclusive community. The United Church supports people of all faith backgrounds and while some people at camp are from the United Church, many are not. The United Church is welcoming to all and allows for everyone to be their true selves. Our goal at camp is to allow time for reflection and spiritual development by providing an opportunity to live in community with peers, treat each other how we would want to be treated and most of all have fun and make friends. Being in nature is one of the best ways to explore one's self, connect to the world and become part of something bigger. |
While Tapawingo is a United Church Camp and we do have some formal Christian Education through Spiritual Care Time, Vesper Service & Chapel, in the woods it's all very informal and done in a fun "camp way!' We try to teach the campers about the Christian faith by being good role models of the Christian lifestyle and camping is an experience in Christian living---an amazing opportunity to live out the Christian faith in nature. The word Tapawingo means “a place of happiness” and this is what we try to send the campers home with. Our goal is to provide a positive experience to the campers through making friends & most importantly having a lot of fun in God’s special place. |
