CHANGE. Sometimes change is hard, or weird, or strange. But, without change, we wouldn't have opportunities for growth and soon the change becomes the nor.m. We want our Tapa-campers, Tapa-parents and this summer’s Tapa-staff to know that the changes we’ve made for the summer of 2024 have been designed to help Tapawingo grow and ‘Be the Light’ in our camper's lives. We want to set up our campers and our summer leadership staff for success and have spent the winter planning for changes that will support that this summer. The drop-off and pick-up days may be different this summer but rest assured we have carefully made these decisions to make for the best experience for our campers and to allow the camp to continue to run with an even higher level of excellent programming and of course the same FUN games, songs, skits, swimming, canoeing and all our old traditions and silliness that camp has to offer. We have spent the winter planning by meeting with the SCA, sitting in on many workshops, connecting with other summer camp directors and child and youth experts and taking feedback from our staff, parents and campers. We are excited to be going into the summer with a new format that will allow our summer staff to have time to rest and reset to deliver a fantastic program each week, and for our campers to have opportunities to unplug, develop independence and practice living in fellowship with their peers. We want you to know that Camp Tapawingo, while still accredited by the United Church of Canada, is a charity and receives a nominal amount from the United Church and our funding has been drastically cut over the years. Our budget for facilities, repairs and maintenance, groceries, staff and program supplies is completely funded by registration fees, donations, merchandise sales and volunteers. Going into summer 2024 we will, for the very first time in our 76 years, have a full-time permanent staff member who will work year-round to plan, attend training and network with other camps and leaders to bring all the best ideas to camp for us to grow and keep Camp Tapawingo relevant in the times we are living in and for what we do for kids at camp. We are excited for the future and all that is to come at Tapawingo and we want to thank you for all of your support over the years!! From: The Camp Tapawingo Board of Directors
